Dear Homefolks,
Best wishes for a happy birthday Dad & Viola & consider your hair wigged.

Just a few lines to let you know that I’m OK & in the best of health. Am so horribly busy that I do not know which way to turn & will be the same for about another 3 weeks. Am neglecting my work to write these 3 short letters. Got the shock of my life Saty night when a letter from Vernie at Ferry Post Ishmailia arrived. I’d made sure he was in France. Had the devils own job getting leave for Sunday but eventually managed it & got down to see him. He’s OK & looking fine. Came back the same night. He gave me those little notes that you all enclosed in my xmas box, but OF COURSE none of the eatables remained _ _ _. Also got a muffler that Elsie had sent me, but what I wanted most  - the pr of sox she had knitted, could not be found, hard luck isn’t it. Received about 7 very old letters from you & others during the week – mostly early Jany. Will answer them fully later. Tell any of my correspondents if you see them that for a while, I’m absolutely lately too busy to write. Best love to you all from Bert.
