On the left is 430 Private (Pte) Reuben Herbert Edward Tidmarsh, 5th Light Horse Regiment. Pte Reuben Tidmarsh, a bootmaker, bushman and stockman prior to enlistment, embarked on aboard HMAT Persic (A34) on 21 December 1914. He served at Gallipoli, Palestine and the Western Front and had been promoted to Warrant Officer Class II at the time of his discharge in 1918. Seated, is 1785 Corporal (Cpl) Ernest Joseph Tidmarsh, 17th Battalion. A clerk prior to enlistment, Pte Ernest Tidmarsh embarked on board HMAT Suffolk (A23) on 28 July 1915. He served at Gallipoli and France and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) on 14 May 1917 for 'gallantry in the field'. He was subsequently promoted to Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (RQMS). On 10 November 1918 RQMS Tidmarsh DCM, died (aged 33) of pneumonia in a Paris hospital. On the right is 3126 Private (Pte) Stanley George Tidmarsh, 42nd Battalion. Pte Stanley Tidmarsh, who was also a clerk prior to enlistment, embarked with the 7th Reinforcements on board HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 7 February 1917. He served in France and returned to Australia on 12 July 1919.
